Myopia or nearsightedness can be treated easily but it cannot be prevented or keep it from getting worse once you have it. However, it does not improve with age. Studies suggest that those who do extensive reading are at higher risk of developing nearsightedness. Similarly, those who are too much close to work such as to the computer causes nearsightedness. There are certain guidelines by following which you can reduce the chances of developing myopia such as hold the work as far away as possible, use as much light as possible to reduce the size of the pupil and the accommodation, look into the distance frequently to relax the accommodation etc. Foods which contain nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, boron, silica, selenium, manganese and vitamin D as well as vitamin C and bioflavonoid are helpful in reducing the risk of developing myopia. Studies suggest that vitamin E helps slow down the progression of myopia in children.
